Ananda Marga
Ananda Marga is an international organisation for Self-Realisation and Service to All. It was founded in 1955 by spiritual master Shrii Shrii Anandamurti (also known as P.R. Sarkar when referring to his social writings.)
Ananda Marga spiritual practises include mantra meditation (which is always taught individually, and free of charge), yoga postures, vegetarian diet and a strict moral code.
Service projects include the Maleny-based Ananda Marga River School and the Lismore Vistara Primary School, and hundreds of schools, relief projects, organic farms and communities and many other projects all over the world.
For more information, see www.anandamarga.org and in Australia www.anandamarga.org.au.
At the Mela
Around twenty monks and nuns usually attend the Ananda Mela and assist in many aspects of the program. These "Dadas" and "Didis" wear orange robes to signify their full time dedication to service and spirituality. These monks and nuns come from around the world (they normally don't work in their home country) and work at projects all around Australia and the surrounding countries. They are at Ananda Palli during Mela time to help with the program and attend the Ananda Marga Summer Retreat which is held just prior to the Mela.(Most members of Ananda Marga are not renunciants, however, and this not a requirement for membership!)
For people wanting to know more about Ananda Marga there will be a workshop on "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Ananda Marga But Were Afraid to Ask" offered as an option, plus books to sale (and you CAN always just ask.)
